Your hair is, naturally, made up of oils, nutrients and proteins.
Healthy, beautiful hair is the result of having these three things in
perfect balance. Unhealthy or damaged hair can be caused by many
different factors, including a lack of moisture and essential oils. An
easy way to improve the condition of your hair and add moisture back into
your hair is to use a
Hair Oil.
What is a Hair Oil?
A Hair Oil is any hair product that contains a naturally derived oil and
is left in the hair to coat and condition the hair.
There are lots of different Hair Oils on the market today. You can choose
from oils derived from nuts, fruits or flowers. Each different type of
hair oil claims do to, essentially, the same thing: improve the quality of
your hair, add shine and moisture, smooth frizz and protect your hair.
The most beneficial Hair Oil product is a Hair Oil Serum or Hair Oil
Treatment. These types of products are applied after shampooing and
conditioning the hair and are left in until your next shampoo. These
types of hair oils are most effective because they are left in the hair,
allowing the product to fully penetrate to the core of the hair shaft,
and they protect the hair from further damage.
Benefits of Using a Hair Oil
A hair oil can do a lot for your hair. Applying a leave-in hair oil
instantly adds moisture and shine to your hair, as well as the essential
oils and nutrients your hair needs to be healthy. The oil works to coat
the outer layer of the hair, making it smooth and shiny while taming
frizz and making it easier to comb or detangle your hair. By coating the
outer layer of your hair (the cuticle), the hair oil helps protect your
hair from damage from combing, the elements (sun, pollution), and heat.
The naturally derived oil also heals from within, strengthening the core
of the hair shaft and repairing damage. While everyone can benefit from
the use of a hair oil, it is especially important for people with dry or
damaged hair to use a hair oil. With continued, regular use, a hair oil
will improve the quality and health of your hair, making it easier to
style and making it healthier, helping it to grow longer.
Homemade Hair Oil
We do not consider a homemade hair oil to be a beneficial way to improve
the quality of your hair, nor do we consider it to be a true hair oil.
The olive oil in your pantry, for example, or straight coconut oil is not
considered a Hair Oil. A true Hair Oil product is specially formulated in
laboratories and combined with other essentially ingredients to deliver
essential oils, vitamins and nutrients to your hair. The molecules are
broken down to a very small size, which allows them to fully penetrate
the hair shaft. The molecules in non-hair products, like your cooking
olive oil, are not specifically formulated for hair care; they are too
large to fully penetrate the hair shaft. These homemade hair oils will
only coat the outer layer of your hair, making you think you're doing
your hair some good, when it's only superficial and does not actually
work to heal the hair.
Also, a fake hair oil treatment, like a homemade olive oil treatment,
will require you to shampoo your hair, probably multiple times, after
you've applied it. This does even more damage to your hair! Oiling your
hair before shampooing won't do anything. Any goodness your hair may be
getting from the oil is washed away when you shampoo. Save your
hair and save yourself a lot of time, by using a specially formulate Hair
Oil. You simply wash and condition your hair like you normally would,
then apply the hair oil to your damp hair and that's it!
Hair Oil for Hair Growth
Many people are looking for a miracle hair oil that will cause their hair
to grow super long, super fast. The sad truth is that there is no product
that exists that does this! Hair grows, on average, one-half inch per
month. The growth rate of your hair is dependant upon your hair getting
all the things it needs to grow, like vitamins and nutrients, and your
basic rate of metabolism. Using a hair oil will help protect your hair
from breakage, which will help your hair grow. Hair oil will also help
keep your hair moisturized and healthy, which is a sure way to maintain hair
growth. Using a hair oil to keep your hair healthy will help your hair
realize it's full growth potential, but don't expect your hair to grow
three or four inches in one month, it simply isn't possible.
