What is a Hair Oil?
A Hair Oil is any hair product that contains a naturally derived oil and is left in the hair to coat and condition the hair. There are lots of different Hair Oils on the market today. A hair oil can do a lot for your hair. Applying a leave-in hair oil instantly adds moisture and shine to your hair, as well as the essential oils and nutrients your hair needs to be healthy. The oil works to coat the outer layer of the hair, making it smooth and shiny while taming frizz and making it easier to comb or detangle your hair. Homemade Hair Oil
We do not consider a homemade hair oil to be a beneficial way to improve the quality of your hair, nor do we consider it to be a true hair oil. The olive oil in your pantry, for example, or straight coconut oil is not considered a Hair Oil. A true Hair Oil product is specially formulated in laboratories and combined with other essentially ingredients to deliver essential oils, vitamins and nutrients to your hair. The molecules are broken down to a very small size, which allows them to fully penetrate the hair shaft. The molecules in non-hair products, like your cooking olive oil, are not specifically formulated for hair care; they are too large to fully penetrate the hair shaft. These homemade hair oils will only coat the outer layer of your hair, making you think you're doing your hair some good, when it's only superficial and does not actually work to heal the hair.

Also, a fake hair oil treatment, like a homemade olive oil treatment, will require you to shampoo your hair, probably multiple times, after you've applied it. This does even more damage to your hair! Oiling your hair before shampooing won't do anything. Any goodness your hair may be getting from the oil is washed away when you shampoo.
