Hard Water Treatments

Hard Water Treatments:

Over 85% of the population in the U.S. (Water Quality Association numbers), are bathing with and drinking hard water. While hard water is fine for drinking, it can cause many problems for your hair, scalp and skin including symptoms of hard water hair. Hard Water Treatments for your hair can make a very big difference, giving you lighter hair, brighter hair color and additional volume to help reduce both fine thin hair problems and thinning hair problems. So here are some tips on how to get the hard water build up out of hair, along with the best shampoo to use with hard water.

Check for Symptoms of Hard  Water Hair by asking yourself --->>  Does my Hair feels dry --  is my Resistant to color or perming --  do I have signs Dandruff or Eczema of the scalp -- is my hair Dry, with flaky skin -- is my hair  Thinning -- does my hair Colors fade too quickly or go all dull --  do my Perms appearing to fall out too soon  -- does my hair show signs of  Discoloration especially  darkening -- has my lost its body and shine? If you say yes your answer may be this simple Hard Water Treatment.

hard water treatment | malibu make-over treatmentThe Malibu Makeover Treatment is #1 Hard Water Treatment in our book, for its low cost, ease of use, and reliability.  Malibu offers Malibu Makeover Treatments in Original formula (normal brown hair), Non-Pigmented (grey hair), Ultra Color and Blond (light hair high lift color or colored & bleached hair). Occasionally someone uses the original formula on highlighted hair or grey hair ... and the highlights turn slightly golden. Not to worry you are seeing where the vitamin C in the formula has oxidized producing the unwanted color shift.  This color fades by itself in a few days or you can shampoo with a violet based shampoo to "brown out" the unwanted golden tone. Eliminating this color shift - is the very reason for the non-pigment and ultra blond formulations. Either way the unwanted minerals are gone from your hair, after your treatment.

Rule #1 Adding heat increases the desired improvement result with most hair treatments

  • Heat Cap : Matex Thermal Spa Professional for deep Conditioning the most controllable & cost effective method to add heat is a Heat Cap
  • second choice would be a salon dryer or a bonnet type hair dryer
  • third there are some "wrap around your head" - microwaveable hair caps
  • hot towels wrapped around your head
  • sitting in the sun
  • trying a product that does "not require heat" note these often works better if you do apply heat.

If you want to try first without heat - please do but we find for the most effective removal of hard water minerals heat is important.

  1. Shampoo your hair twice and rinse.
  2. You get a Malibu Makeover kit. Empty the Malibu makeover treatment envelope into 2oz of hot water. Stir  or shake and let gel for 1 or 2 minutes.
  3. Pour the mixture onto your hair and using your hands work into your hair from scalp to ends.
  4. Cover with a plastic processing cap
  5. Add heat if you have it. We like the Heat Cap for both ease of use and the silence.
  6. Wait at least 10 minutes  with heat (20 minutes without heat ) then rinse.
  7. Condition, rinse and dry.
